Not literally, sorry ladies. However, chocolate has been proven to aid your heart in other ways. Flavones is the wonderful ingredient in chocolate that gives us these wonderful health benefits.

Numerous studies have been conducted that have found women who eat chocolate have a lower risk of strokes! Many studies have found that women who ate chocolate, specifically more than 45 grams daily, had a 20% lower risk of stroke than women who choose sweet treats other than chocolate.

Chocolate also lowers “bad” LDL cholesterol! This is amazing news. LDL is “low-density lipoprotein”. This “bad” cholesterol makes deposits directly into your artery wall because it can’t dissolve in the bloodstream. Oh but wait, the good news doesn’t stop there! Regular chocolate monsters gain the benefits of lower blood pressure and a lower risk of heart disease.

Want to take a walk on the dark side? The dark chocolate side? Go ahead, heart-healthy inflammation fighting benefits awaits you! It also has amazing anti-clotting, blood-thinning properties that rival aspirin in improving blood flow and circulation. Wow, imagine opening your medicine cabinet and reaching for a dark chocolate bar!

Another study done by the Italian’s found there is a link between diabetes and chocolate. Surprisingly, it is a positive link. They found that if a person eats chocolate on a regular schedule it actually increases insulin sensitivity which in turn reduces the risk for diabetes.

While in South Park, I visited 2013 SD Healthy Living Nominee, Eclipse Chocolat on 30th Street. Eclipse has an amazing selection of chocolates, coffees, and a phenomenal brunch daily. Their philosophy of goodness extends well past the mouthwatering food and aroma filled coffee. Eclipse Chocolat believes in practices that we all should exercise more regularly.

Think Locally. Think Sustainably. Think Ethically.

These are printed on their blue walls next to a beautiful circular large viewing window that looks into their kitchen for true transparency. They believe it is more than just saying what you believe, you also have to do it and they certainly do!When you eat at Eclipse Chocolat, 10% of your purchase goes to nonprofits as an in-kind donation. Eclipse Chocolat operates the store with a commitment to the environment. They also only use ethically sourced chocolate without the additives, preservatives, coloring or GMO’s.

While I was there I was greeted by Eclipse’s top notch friendly staff as I enjoyed an Orange Peel Vanilla Mocha, two words…another please! It was fresh, light, and strong enough to get the morning coffee job done!

There are amazing health benefits associated with chocolate in addition to a healthier heart. You’ll also benefit from improved skin, vision and more. Stop on by Eclipse Chocolat to get a healthy dose of hospitality and good food.
