Finish Chelsea’s Run 5k – March 02, 2013
Published on February 12th, 2013
Chelsea King was a 17-year old Poway High School student who is remembered for her positive and compassionate spirit. Back in February 25, 2013 on a sunny Thursday afternoon she disappeared after going for a run in a San Diego community park. Law enforcement and thousands of San Diego volunteers searched for several days and nights, until they finally found her body in a shallow grave by Lake Hodges. She was the victim of a horrible crime committed by a convicted sex offender. Word quickly spread and nearly a month later on March 20th, 2010 more than 3,500 community members joined to run and walk in honor of Chelsea.
This story and community compelled Kelly and Brent King, Chelsea’s parents, to start an official annual tradition in San Diego do a 5k run to “Finish Chelsea’s Run”. In 2011 more than 5,400 people participated in this event and the crowd just keeps growing. The proceeds and donations go to help make San Diego a better place for children and parents to feel safe by funding the Chelsea’s Light Foundation and the Chelsea’s Law.
Come on down to Balboa park on March 2nd and help finish Chelsea’s run with thousands of other local San Diegans.
